The Joys of Small-scale Beekeeping

Join us for a free 2-hour introductory-level beekeeping course with Jolanta Dabrowski, owner of Natural Instincts Beekeeping, an apiary based in London, ON, where the welfare of bees is a priority. She will discuss the importance of natural and sustainable small-scale beekeeping methods and its health benefits for honeybees and us. She will explore different approaches to the beekeeping from pollinators working in your garden to working directly with honeybees to harvest their honey. The course includes demonstrations, short                                                                                        training videos, vital information for new beekeepers, and plenty of time for                                                                                         questions.

Edible Plant Walk

Join us for an edible plant walk-and-talk with Master Naturalist Karen Stephenson of Edible Wild Food. The walk will take place along the trailhead of the Trans Canada Trail in Cookstown at Wellington St. and John Dr., following the annual spring plant sale at the Cookstown Branch of the library.

Many people spend countless dollars taking a chance on store-bought spring detox cleanses – and it sure does not make “cents” when you can do this for free. Come on out and learn what edible wild plants are in our area that truly are the best way to detox a sluggish body and rejuvenate your liver! Detox products purchased in a store can be very “iffy” because we do not know where or how the plants they use are harvested. More importantly, using plants that grow in your geographical area are best for you – not something from hundreds of kilometres away. Enjoy some fresh air and learn not only how to detox; but how to incorporate edible wild plants into your daily diet!

This is part of the Innisfil Seed Library workshop program. Please consider bringing seeds to donate to the Innisfil Seed Library!
Registration is required and payments are to be made directly to the presenter Karen Stephenson at info@ediblewildfood.com $15 (kids under 16 free); no refunds.
